Clayton
Clayton’s friendliness kept me from looking straight ahead and waiting for the light to change.
Guernica Magazine published my essay titled, “Clayton.” In 2019 Clayton, who lived in the park near my house, befriended me. I spent several years slowly getting to know him and his world. The essay, which includes six photographs and a map of Clayton’s neighborhood, is an excerpt of my unpublished manuscript: “Shelter: The Architecture of Our Days.”

A reading of “To Keep You Close,” an essay that begins with my father’s wristwatch and looks at how routines turn into rituals.
