Writing Workshop Begins April 6
Touch, Taste, Smell: Memoir and the Senses
We will use the senses to help us sneak into back door moments of our lives rather than facing our personal histories head on. Reading Stephen Kuusisto’s memoir of blindness and listening, Rebecca Brown’s description of tactile interactions, and of the “unwashed potato smell” of Anne Lamott’s son will inspire us to explore our senses. We will allow foods we eat and objects we brush up against to lead us into the past. We will follow the sounds of our childhood and the smell of old clothing. By the end of the workshop participants will have completed five short prose pieces.
When: Tuesdays, April 6 through May 11, 7-9 PM
Where: Richard Hugo House, 1634 11th Avenue, Seattle (on Capitol Hill)
